ABOUT AMARTYA

In cooperation with the Norwegian organization Kulturstudier and different Scandinavian universities, Amartya offers the possibility to study a one-semester full time course in different developing countries, in order to provide the amazing opportunity of intercultural exchanges while you are studying abroad. On a higher level, the exchange of experiences and knowledge are useful tools to create good relations and dialogues across cultural and physical barriers.
Amartya is an organization that promotes systemic change through the development of social and educational projects that involves the cooperation of distinct actors of society. The foundation of Amartya is the conviction that Sustainability, in all its forms, can only be attained through the promotion of ethical leadership and the active participation and cooperation of all sectors of society.
All our educational programs are held in beautiful study centers in Vietnam, India, Ghana and Argentina that together cater for approximately 300 students per semester. The study centers are located on the basis of attributes such as academic institutions, infrastructure, safety, cultural interest, and beach. Our administrative staff at the centers does their utmost to ensure that your study period is interesting, enjoyable and academically rewarding.
The programs provide 30 transferable credits from Scandinavian universities (the European Credit Transfer System) and are eligible for support from most state educational loan funds.

ALLIANCE  WITH  KULTURSTUDIER
Amartya and the Norwegian organization Kulturstudier have formalized a strategic alliance to develop new academic programs in Argentina and cover new international markets. Kulturstudier have arranged studies abroad since 1997 in cooperation with selected universities around the world, successfully running study centers for development programs in countries as Vietnam, India, Nicaragua and Ghana. Under this strategic alliance, Amartya will be responsible for the management and academic content of the Argentinean courses, and will promote Kulturstudier programs internationally.

BEING  A  STUDENT  WITH  AMARTYA  and  KULTURSTUDIER

We give priority to benefiting fully from working in small groups where we get to know each other well. This makes it easier for students to ask questions and to request explanation and guidance when the syllabus literature presents problems or when they have difficulty in writing assignments. As a student you will find that academic discussions can equally well take place across the table in a café in the evening as in the lecture room or seminar group.
We also have certain expectations of you as one of our students. The teaching programs are based on learning through dialogue – a method that requires students to be proactive in their own learning process. We provide the opportunity for close cooperation between students and lecturers/tutors and among the students themselves. This means that we expect you as a student to make a positive contribution in seminar groups and in other group work.
In return you will experience a rich and active learning environment that is characterized by a common interest in the subject and the culture, and where the distance between student and teacher is smaller than we are accustomed to from auditoriums and classrooms at home. The very unusual environments that surround us in Pondicherry, Hoi An, Cape Coast and Buenos Aires have an inspiring effect on students and help to clarify the literary information that is presented. By means of trips and excursions our skilled teachers integrate examples from the area into the theory that is being taught, thus helping to make the subject alive and relevant. In Amartya we know from experience that such study activities result in particularly good academic results as well as providing new friends and the experience of another culture.
